The Suitability & Appropriateness Questionnaire (SAQ), Explained
At Debitum Investments, we’re committed to providing our investors with a secure and personalized investment experience. As part of this commitment, we’ve made an important update to our onboarding process. In January 2025, we implemented the Suitability & Appropriateness Questionnaire (SAQ), which replaced our Investor Knowledge Questionnaire.
Why We’ve Enhanced Our Onboarding Process
The recent license extension by our regulator, the Bank of Latvia, has enabled us to offer portfolio management services to our investors. The new SAQ is a fundamental regulatory requirement for providing these services, demonstrating our commitment to regulatory compliance while enhancing our ability to serve you better.
This comprehensive questionnaire helps us evaluate how our offering fits not only your investment knowledge and experience but also your preferences and risk tolerance.
What the SAQ Evaluates
The questionnaire covers four essential areas:
- Investor status: Assigns you an investor status in accordance with MiFID II (if you confirm to become one), ensuring appropriate protective measures are in place.
- Investment knowledge and experience: Assesses your understanding of financial instruments and investment experience.
- Risk tolerance: Evaluates your financial situation and your overall risk tolerance.
- Investment preferences: Identifies your preferred investment approaches and portfolio management needs.
How It Works
The SAQ takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and is an integral part of our upgraded onboarding process, which includes:
- Identity verification
- Know Your Client Questionnaire
- Address verification (optional, allowing transactions from 1,000 EUR to 15,000 EUR)
- Suitability & Appropriateness Questionnaire
Your investment experience is tailored based on your responses. The examples may include, but aren’t limited to:
- Access to specific investment options aligned with your profile
- Customized portfolio management services
- Access to certain functionality
Why This Matters for You
This enhancement isn’t about creating barriers to start investing—it’s about upholding your interests and providing you with the most suitable investment opportunities.
The SAQ:
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements
- Helps us to personalize your investment experiences
- Supports the delivery of portfolio management services
Important Notes for Investors
- Existing users will need to complete the SAQ to continue using the platform’s full functionality
- The questionnaire will be periodically updated to maintain its effectiveness
- You can review your questionnaire responses at any time
- Accessing certain functionality requires completion of the SAQ
Moving Forward
Your financial security and success are our top priorities. The SAQ represents our commitment to maintaining the highest investor protection standards while providing you with tailored investment opportunities that match your experience, knowledge, preferences, and financial situation.
